Every night of the year our door is open to men needing shelter. Sometimes as many as 14 or 15 newcomers will show up. Most of these men will stay with us a few days or a few weeks, and many of them will get back on their feet with a job and income to sustain their needs. We remember the Scripture that says "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." It is always a joy to welcome hurting men in the name of Jesus, to show them the love of Jesus by kind words and provision. We thank God for allowing us to influence so many men for the Gospel. It is a trust that we take seriously and act upon joyfully.
Some of the transient men apply for and are accepted into our Overcomers Program. They stay with us for 6 to 12 months, and we get to know them quite well. This extended stay opens the door for relationship-building and ministry that goes deeper than we can with short-term residents. "Program Men," as we call them, attend church each week, attend 9 chapel services per week at PRM, have daily work assignments, and have the opportunity for small group Bible studies as well. All this and more are designed and intended to help them get to know the Lord better, for that knowledge will sustain them in their "post-PRM" life.
