The following is Ricky's Story as told in his own words at our Annual Appreciation Banquet (November 7, 2014).
Good evening ladies and gentlemen, my name is Ricky Pouliot.
For over a quarter of a century I have been stuck in a vicious downward spiral of moral destruction and spiritual decay with the light of hope, love, and peace becoming dimmer with every passing day. I found myself lost in a world of despair and loneliness. I felt I would never find any peace or forgiveness, and one day it became more than I could bear, so I tried to take my own life.
I would like to say, that is what opened my eyes and made me realize there was a much better way to handle things, but it wasn't. I kept getting in the way of something much, much bigger than I ever imagined possible. It wasn't until I came to the Peninsula Rescue Mission, after having been turned down by or turned away from several other shelters, programs, and homes, did I begin to realize that God had been present in my life the entire time, and was trying to get me where I would listen to Him for the guidance and answers to what I had been searching in vain for everywhere else. He has made possible what I doubted. Me being here today is a blessing and testimony to His infinite grace, mercy, and forgiveness.
Being taken in at the Rescue Mission and given a chance was made possible because each of you cared enough to make it a reality. With all that's going on in the world today, and in your own lives, you took the time to give generously and selflessly to this Mission and to me, and that has opened up the door to a new beginning for me. Thank each and every one of you for all you have given, for what you gave has given me a new life. Thank you all so very, very much!!!
