House of Refuge

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.” -Matthew 25:35

The House of Refuge is our Men’s Emergency Shelter, located at 3700 Huntington Ave in downtown Newport News.  The doors are open to serve men experiencing homelessness 365 days a year.  Jobs fall through, marriages fall apart, and bad choices (sometimes just one) can cause a man to fall on hard times.  When the unthinkable happens, we want to be a place for these men to run into and find refuge.  We have space to accommodate up to 40 men on any given night and we offer them a variety of services during their stay to include:

  • a safe place to sleep
  • breakfast and dinner each day
  • laundry services
  • hot showers
  • consistent teaching from the Word of God.

Men are able to check-in daily at 4PM. And if you ever encounter someone in need, all details for check-in can be found here.
