The House of Refuge is our Men’s Emergency Shelter, located at 3700 Huntington Ave. in downtown Newport News.  The doors are open to serve men experiencing homelessness 365 days a year.  Jobs fall through, marriages fall apart, and bad choices (sometimes just one) can cause a man to fall on hard times.  When the unthinkable happens, we want to be a place for these men to run into and find refuge.  We have space to accommodate up to 40 men on any given night and we offer them a variety of services during their stay

Ministry to Homeless Women Coming Soon

We have long been committed to providing a safe haven for homeless men in our community. However, as we reflect on our mission and the needs of the community we serve, we have come to a profound realization – it is not just men who find themselves in desperate need of emergency shelter and support.
After a thorough assessment of our community, we uncovered a stark truth: there is a real, unmet need for unaccompanied women experiencing homelessness. We recognize the urgent necessity to extend our services and address the unique challenges faced by women experiencing homelessness.

We invite community members, volunteers, and organizations to join us on this exciting journey as we expand our mission and embrace the opportunity to serve women experiencing homelessness. By uniting our efforts, we can make a profound impact on the lives of these women, offering them the hope and assistance.

At the Peninsula Rescue Mission our commitment to serving our community is unwavering. Each year, as the holiday season approaches, we eagerly prepare ourselves to reach out and make a difference in the lives of those in need. Through our longstanding traditions of providing Thanksgiving meals and Christmas gifts for kids, we strive to bring joy and hope to those who may be facing difficult circumstances.

As an organization, PRM constantly seeks ways to serve our community beyond just the holiday season; therefore Camp Open Arms has become a beacon of light in the community every summer. At Camp Open Arms, the staff and volunteers are committed to creating a nurturing and inclusive environment for the young people of our community. At PRM, we are forever grateful for the support we receive from our community. It is the combined efforts of our donors, volunteers, and dedicated staff that allow us to continue serving our community with integrity, compassion, and the resolve to make a lasting impact.
